Introduction to NCWC

INTRODUCTION: The National Council of Women of Canada (NCWC) is an accredited NGO (Non Government Organization) with the United Nations. The NCWC has a long history of working internationally. NCWC has been a member of the International Council of Women (ICW) since 1897, and has consultative status at the United Nations, Category II. Each year we send a delegation to the meetings of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York in March.

Voice of Women for Peace (VOW)

One of the very dedicated and hardworking Canadian groups attending the CSW is the Voice of Women for Peace or VOW. The following is their program:

VOW UN CSW PROGRAM 2012  Mon. 27 Feb. – Fri. 9 March  
 I am VERY pleased to invite you all to participate in the special events VOW will host at CSW  Guests are welcome.  
Week 1
Tues. Feb. 28 , 8.-8.30 a.m. at Unitarian Universalist UN Office (UU UNO)  7th fl. Church Center,  777 UN Plaza – Orientation to CSW – Janis 

( 6-8 pm. – See you at  NGO reception ( pre-paid ticket req’d)  821 UN Plaza @ 46th St..)    
Wed. Feb. 29 , 8 – 8.30 a.m. – at UU UNO, “What we do for Women’s Rights?” – Bruce Knotts, Director, UU UNO 

Thurs. Mar. 1 – 12 – 1. p.m. at lovely Quaker House, 247 E. 48 St., “Quiet Diplomacy: Quakers in & around the UN” - Quaker UNO staff  

Fri. Mar. 2 -8-8.30 a.m. at UU UNO – Prep. for visit to Cdn. Mission to UN – All VOWs, at least. (Those going to Mission  give names to Janis by 10 a.m. today. Cdn. Mission requirement.)   

Lunch, coffee or dinner w. feminists -Betty Reardon, Marilou McPhedran, Cora Weiss – tbc  

Week 2:
Mon. Mar. 5 – 8.-8.30  at UU UNO – VOW workshop preparation   
 - 9-9.45 a.m at 885 Second Ave., 14th  fl. lobby visit to Cdn. Mission to UN  w. Ambassador   Gilles Rivard & Chantale Walker, First Secretary, Political Affairs.  

Tues. Mar. 6  8.-8.30  at UU UNO – VOW workshop prep., if nec.
-6.15-7.45 p.m at Church Center, 10th fl. VOW PANEL “Quest for Conversion: from Military Spending to Women’s Empowerment & the MDGs” w. Cora Weiss, Hannah Hadikin, Tamara Lorincz, Marilou McPhedran. Janis moderates. 

Wed. Mar. 7 – 8. - 8.30 a.m.  at UU UNO - Panel debriefing + wrap up  – tbc
