Introduction to NCWC

INTRODUCTION: The National Council of Women of Canada (NCWC) is an accredited NGO (Non Government Organization) with the United Nations. The NCWC has a long history of working internationally. NCWC has been a member of the International Council of Women (ICW) since 1897, and has consultative status at the United Nations, Category II. Each year we send a delegation to the meetings of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York in March.

Side Events at the CSW


The schedule of Side Events organized by the UN and Member States for CSW 56 (27 February to 9 March 2012) are now available on the UN Women website. These include an interesting session sponsored by UN Women and the Mary Robinson Foundation on Climate Justice (5 March 10:00 - 11:15 am, room tbd) entitled" Rural Women, climate change and access to energy". Another session organized by the ILO (2 March, 1:15 to 2:30 pm in Conference Room concerns "The importance of decent work for indigenous women".


If you wish to attend the Side Events at the UN, you can list your name with the contact person (see UN Side Event schedule) to request an "event tag". Organizers will have these tags available for you to pick up before the session. Please see their desk in the main lobby of the UN after security.
